Luxembourg Garden
The sight of budding admirals sailing their toy boats around its large basin and scores of students sitting revising their lessons or bantering with their fellow scholars, have made this formal, French-style garden (despite a few English-style winding avenues) one of the most sought after places in the capital. The Medici fountain, the Delacroix monument by Dalou and a whole host of sculptures (including one by Zakine) are just some of the delights this garden with its puppets and merry-go-rounds has to offer.

La Coupole
102, Boulevard du Montparnasse
75014 Paris
In Montparnasse’s heyday, the paths of all the greats crossed here: Picasso, Giacometti, Hemingway, Kessel…La Coupole is now a protected site and classified historical monument. The large, rectangular dining room (in art deco style) is magnificent with its 32 painted pillars and the service still as elegant (waiters still dress in tailcoats!). Dishes include the famous Indian-style lamb curry, a whole goose foie gras with quince compote, or for those with a sweeter tooth, a brown rum baba with fresh fruit. Not to be forgotten are the DJ sessions held in the basement and weekly events (Tuesday is salsa night for example) at Le Dancing, another setting of cult status. La Coupole is right there with the times and is looking to put a youthful spring back in its step.
